ReviewSTARRED REVIEW The success of this book, which follows Music + Travel Worldwide and three Film + Travel volumes, comes from doing more with less. It does not intend to be a comprehensive guide to Europe s picturesque cities or a bible for art lovers. Instead it describes how five cities influenced five artists Van Gogh s Arles, France; Munch s Oslo, Norway; Vermeer s Delft, the Netherlands; Caravaggio s Rome; and Goya s Madrid. This guide allows a tourist to stand where pictures were painted and see what the artist saw (albeit the present setting). This first rate book is packed with a crash course on the history of each artist, walking tours, information on where to stay, directions on how to get to the cities and around them, an index of artworks and museum locations, lists of books, music, and films related to the artists, and hotel and restaurant recommendations. VERDICT With fantastic color reproductions and great value for the price, this little gem is as much fun for the armchair traveler as it is for the tourist eager to get a close up look at Europe s greatest artists. ~Joseph L. Five Travel Books Worth a Look This richly illustrated guidebook discusses five artists and their cities: Van Gogh and Arles, France; Vermeer and Delft, Netherlands; Goya and Madrid; Caravaggio and Rome; and Munch and Oslo. Each section offers a biographical portrait of the artist, features a timeline and comments on the significance of place on the work. In addition, sidebars examine the artists imprint on pop culture and literature: how Van Gogh, for example, is depicted in movies ( Lust for Life, Vincent & Theo ) and documentaries. It also includes suggested Web sites and books, a calendar of events in each city and surrounding area, maps, walking tours and suggestions on where to eat and sleep. Each chapter concludes with thumbnail reproductions of the artist's masterpieces accompanied by a brief commentary. Art enthusiasts will adore this book. ~ By June Sawyer, April 09, 2010 --The Chicago Tribune

4 B; F+ M* K! ~! x3 vCulture a Go Go: Museyons Art + Travel Europe It s easy, when in Europe, to walk the footsteps of some remarkable and culturally prominent figures, and artistic influence seems apparent at every corner. But for those who want a more in-depth experience (surpassing mere recognition to walk in the shoes of one of five renowned creators), Museyons Art + Travel Europe might be just the thing. It s a thick book at around 200 pages but for good reason: within it, five authors trace the lives and work of Van Gogh in Arles, Munch in Oslo, Vermeer in Delft, Caravaggio in Rome and Goya in Madrid. Combining art with the art of travel, the writers present time lines, walking tours, accommodation and entertainment listings and a whole lot of biography. Think of it as a well-curated museum tour that takes place in a well-known city. The downside of this book is that it is only a book. I d like to think that, with enough popularity, Museyon will break the artist and locale sets into five individual bindings. But for now, to avoid bias, you may just have to consider a complete tour leaving no page unturned. Visit Museyon s web site for more information, or order a copy on Amazon. ~ Laura Carroll, March 6, 2010 --StudentsInEurope.com $ ?! C+ B i0 i& |/ s k" e
